A Review of “Encanto (2021)”

I’ve decided to end my movie watching experience of 2021 with Encanto. I tend to be a sucker for Disney animated movies and this one was no exception. The premise is “The Madrigals are an extraordinary family who lives hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charming place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift – every child except Mirabel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger”. So did the movie enchant me or did the magic fade out? Firstly, I love the setting and world of Encanto. This is the first time Disney has explored Columbian culture and I think they did a great job in representing it. The movie also doesn’t shy away from some dark stuff which genuinely surprised me. The world is also wonderful, despite just being in one house most of the time. Although, to be fair it is a magical house which allows it to be more

A “QUICK!” Review of “Wrath of Man (2021)”

The acting can feel a bit wooden, the characters have stupid names and do stupid things, the dialogue is kind of silly and doesn’t fit the tone of the movie, and the story seriously hinges on two burritos. However, the mood and the tone of this film is marvellous. Guy Ritchie combines a generic revenge and heist film but makes it work. Jason Statham is certainly in his element in this film.

A Review of “The Matrix Resurrections (2021)”

When I heard that they were making a 4th Matrix movie, I was baffled. The Matrix Revolution (2003) ended fine even if the movie itself was a mixed bag. The only thing that gave me hope was that one of the directors from the original Matrix trilogy was returning. The premise is “To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. If he’s learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of – or into – the Matrix. Neo already knows what he has to do, but what he doesn’t yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before”. So should it have been resurrected or stay shut down? One of the things I liked in this movie was the ideas that were explored. In the first act of the movie, it’s revealed that Thomas (Keanu Reeves) created a very popular trilogy of games; The Matrix Trilogy. It then becomes incredibly meta

A Review of “Hawkeye (2021)”

Hawkeye to me was always such an underrated Avenger. As hinted at in Black Widow (2021) he fought against her and won while sparing her. Took down Loki from the sky in Avengers (2012), was the only Avenger to not get brainwashed in Age of Ultron (2015), fought a super-powered and armoured Black Panther in Civil War (2016), take down many gangs single-handedly during the Blip, managed to outrun and kill all the Aliens chasing him alone in Endgame (2019). So I was happy that he was finally getting the solo project he deserved. The premise is “Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit”. So does this show hit the target or fail to hit the mark? The main leads, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and

A Review of “Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)”

Spider-Man No Way Home might be the most hyped and most anticipated Superhero movie since Avengers Endgame. After that shocking cliffhanger from the previous movie and the fact that villains from both Sam Raimi’s Spiderman trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man were returning for multiverse madness, the hype went through the roof. However, does it live up to the hype or collapse under its weight? Let’s get the obvious praises out the way first. The action sequences are all still very exciting and enjoyable to watch. The fight scenes utilize Spidey’s and the villains’ ability very well leading to a very fun choreography. Although, my favourite fight happens to just be a brutal fistfight in an apartment that illustrate the new tonal direction of the film. Michael Giacchino returns to score the film and his music score is better than ever. The first half of the film has a similar music score to that of Spider-Man Homecoming and Far From Home. The second half is where Michael’
