A Review of “Top Gun: Maverick (2022)”

After 36 years, we are finally able to watch the sequel to the 1986 Top Gun. I was a little baffled when they announced they were making a Top Gun sequel as I wasn’t fond of this idea of making sequels to really old movies for the sake of banking on nostalgia. The first film was pretty great and I just didn’t feel like the sequel could be as good as the first one. So is Top Gun: Maverick a cash grab or a worthy sequel? Firstly, the flying scenes are breathtaking! All of these sequences make you feel like you’re in the cockpit and air with them. This is because they did it practically by actually having the actors be in these jets for real. The director fitted cameras into these cockpits and attached them to the side of these jets. This allows for some downright amazing shots and makes the scenes feel more believable. The action scenes are just intense and exhilarating with it having me on the edge of my seat. This is especially noticeable in the final act which is one of

A “QUICK!” Review of “Morbius (2022)”

There’s a moment in the film where there is music playing and the guy singing keeps saying “have sex” and honestly he is right. I should be doing that instead of watching this nonsensical garbage.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)”

Why take drugs when you can experience whatever fever dream this film was? Truly one of the most bonkers and most creative movies I’ve ever seen! Phenomenal performances, great characters, an engaging story, an amazing soundtrack, stunning visuals, cool action sequences, and genuinely funny moments while exploring deep themes and having a touching message that will no doubt resonate with audiences. If you don’t watch this movie then you are committing a crime! One of the best experiences of 2022.

A “QUICK!” Review of “West Side Story (2021)”

Legendary director, Steven Spielberg, tackles the iconic West Side Story. It has a stunning cinematography, an awesome jazzy soundtrack and great performances. Steven injects a classic Romeo and Juliet tale with modern filming style that makes it somehow feel fresh. This remake might actually surpass the original 1961 film. A phenomenal musical and another great film from Steven Spielberg.

A Review of “Moon Knight (2022)”

Moon Knight is the first Marvel Disney+ show that is not based on an existing MCU character. I have no knowledge of this character apart from his split personality aspect. However, that alone made me very interested to watch this. So does Moon Knight shine or should it have stayed in the shadow? Firstly, Oscar Isaac is phenomenal as the titular character. Due to the split personality element, he ends up playing multiple individuals and it is just captivating to watch. There are scenes where he is just talking to himself and let’s just say he has great chemistry with himself for sure! There are also some emotional moments that Oscar delivers perfectly. This might genuinely be one of Oscar’s best performances yet. May Calamawy plays Layla, the love interest, and she is great opposite the amazing Oscar which is quite a feat. I especially love her interactions with the “Steven” personality which is just very sweet. Ethan Hawke plays the villain Arthur Harrow and he deliver

A “QUICK!” Review of “The Bad Guys (2022)”

A fun light-hearted heist movie with a colourful and slick animation. The story also has a lot of heart, the characters are very likeable and the actors give a good voice performance. There’s nothing really bad about “The Bad Guys” A truly underrated gem.

A Review of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)”

I enjoyed the first Doctor Strange film even though it followed the same format of superhero origin stories. The exploration of the magic side was just an interesting aspect of the universe and I just love how they portrayed it visually. So I was gutted when the director of the original, Scott Derrickson, left the project. However, it was then revealed that legendary director Sam Raimi, director of the Evil Dead and Spider-Man trilogy, would direct it and I was super excited again. So does it deliver a multiverse of fun or is it a multiverse of dullness? Firstly, this is definitely a Sam Raimi movie. All the usual flairs that you would expect from him are completely in here and I love it. The stylistic way he shoots a scene, the way he portrays New York feels like what he did in Spider-Man, the slight goofiness, the horror elements and jump scares are all here. There are some great visuals during the magic sequence and multiverse stuff. There are also some horrific sce

A “QUICK!” Review of “Raging Fire (2021)”

Director Benny Chan’s last outing due to unfortunately passing away, is a fun martial art flick. Raging Fire has amazing and stylish fight choreograph that are exhilarating. Additionally, a great performance from both Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse with the intense rivalry of their characters. However, the story and characterization is bare bone with the movie having moments of slow pacing due to long expositions and overuse of flashbacks. The movie did not need to be 2 hours. It also has a slight clash of tone as the first half of the film has action set piece that feel grounded and gritty. The second half then starts having these really cartoony action scenes that make it feel like a completely different movie. Nevertheless, it’s an enjoyable martial popcorn flick that will definitely keep you entertained for it’s run time.
