A “QUICK!” Review of “One Piece Film: Red (2023)”

It’s a One Piece movie that does something different with it being more of a musical centred on the new character Uta, Shank’s daughter. It’s not action-heavy like previous movies. Uta herself is a complex character with clear mental issues, which is not what you usually see in One Piece. It delivers great songs, good animation and an emotional yet dark story. The last 20 minutes of this film are stellar! Don’t come into this one expecting something similar to ‘Strong World’ or 'Film Z’. This is a unique experience for One Piece in general. I personally found it a fun watch but I understand that this film might be divisive for One Piece fans.

A Review of “Scream VI (2023)”

The previous film, Scream V, was surprisingly enjoyable. It came out 11 years after Scream 4 and it was the first to not be directed by Wes Craven. It felt like it shouldn’t have worked, but it did! Now after a significantly smaller gap of just 1 year, we have another instalment in the Scream franchise. Does it continue to be a slashing entry or is this going to be the first to fall flat on its face? Firstly, I love the change in setting for this film. Bringing the franchise out of Woodsboro made this a more interesting entry. We get to see Ghostface kill in the city and that leads to a lot of interesting set pieces. A memorable one was Ghostface hiding amongst other Halloween people on a subway. These scenes are incredibly tense and suspenseful. I also love how brutal this new Ghostface is. The way they stab their victims, hunt the main characters and hurt anyone in their way is unsettling. The opening scene was also a terrific way of subverting expectations. The myst

A “QUICK!” Review of “Ghosted (2023)”

I love Chris Evans. I also love Ana De Armas. However, they have no chemistry together. Doesn’t help when all the couple do is argue throughout the film. Introduced arguing, and even the whole second act is them arguing. The action scenes are mediocre and plot itself is boring. Just an uninteresting and uninspired movie. Hard to believe this director made Rocketman because this is a rocket that doesn’t even launch.

A Review of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)”

In a current era where the DC cinematic universe is such a mess with no idea what direction it is going; it is hard to care about Shazam Fury of the Gods. Is it even part of the new DCU? It didn’t help that there was a severe lack of marketing for this film and all the Black Adam controversy. However, I enjoyed the first Shazam and was willing to look past the fact that most likely nothing in this movie is going to lead to anything. So is this a strong sequel or another stinker from DC? For the most part, I think the actors do a great job in their roles. Zachary Levi is still charming and charismatic as Shazam. One issue in the first film is that adult Billy (Zachary Levi) and young Billy (Asher Angel) didn’t feel like the same person as their performance felt inconsistent. Asher, despite having a smaller role this time, does a better job of feeling like the same character by performing closer to Zachary’s performance. Helen Mirren plays one of the villains Hespera. I

A Review of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)”

Nintendo has decided to give another attempt after the disastrous 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros movie. Super Mario is a huge part of my childhood, so I was thrilled at the idea of a movie that actually resembles the game. I was a little put off by the not-so-positive critic’s review but is their score justified? Let’s get the biggest worry out of the way, Chris Pratt as Mario. He is all right in the role. I think he does a good voice for Mario that works for the whole runtime. Likewise, Charlie Day as Luigi is good as well. The first act of the movie with Mario and Luigi together is incredibly enjoyable. The pacing is great and they do a great job illustrating the strong bonds between the brothers. This is also thanks to the great chemistry between Chris and Charlie. In terms of great voice performance, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad is terrific. We have seen in interviews that he does the high pitch voice without just sound editing tricks. His voice as Toad works perf

A Review of “Creed III (2023)”

I love the Rocky franchise. It has its lows and its over-the-top entries but for the most part, this series has been mostly hits than misses. Creed was a spinoff and I never expected to enjoy it so immensely. I loved Creed 1 and Creed 2 which is why I was hoping for a hat trick with Creed 3. There was some worry as this is the first entry without Rocky. it was also Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut with him starring as Creed and directing. So does it succeed or is this a miss? Firstly, Michael did a great job in his directorial debut. He pushes the Creed movies out of Rocky’s shadow and gives it more grit. The fights feel more visceral and flashy with some clear anime-inspired influence. He uses a lot of slow-mo which leads to some nice-looking shots. I also think the boxing intro and montage were also really well shot as well. He also does something interesting in the final fight that involves silence which gave it a new feel. The soundtrack was awesome and the ci
