A “QUICK!” Review of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)”

Within the first 20 minutes, this movie has already got you hooked. The tension with the countdown and then it is an adrenaline rush of 20 minutes of non-stop action. John Wick 3 attempts different and creative types of action scenes compared to the second one. Something this entry also does differently is that it leans more on comedy. This is not just in the dialogue but in the action scenes as well. For example, a guy gets constantly hit into every single glass case. The dialogue doesn’t feel very impactful and can be overly silly. John Wick makes an important decision that is undone in literally 10 minutes. It is also very cartoony compared to previous entries. We have characters that can seemingly teleport, full-armoured soldiers that barely flinch being shot at, and a guy that can survive falling from an entire building. Overall, still better than a majority of action movies and the action scenes are still enjoyable. In the end, isn’t that why we watch John Wi...

A “QUICK!” Review of “John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)”

I always appreciated how John Wick 2 expands on world-building. It explains some of the rules of the world and even goes to Europe rather than the one setting like the first. The action scenes are bigger but not necessarily better. I think out of the whole franchise, this one has the least memorable action sequences aside from the club scene. They are still great to watch but not as cool as the first movie or the entries afterwards. I do like that we get to see John Wick in full force and not needing help as he did in the first film. It feels like the myth of the boogeyman is more believable. I do have an issue with the antagonist. I find his reasoning for antagonizing John Wick as stupid and unnecessary. Nevertheless, this is a great sequel and is still satisfying to watch!

A “QUICK!” Review of “John Wick (2014)”

Who would’ve thought a movie about someone taking revenge for their dog, would lead to one of the best action franchises of all time? Rewatching the first one after all this time, John Wick isn’t as badass here as here is in later entries. He survives a lot because the antagonist don’t simply kill him or because his friend saves him. It also ends weirdly with a one on one fight with an old man. Nevertheless, it is still a terrific action movie with memorable action sequences such as the house and the club shoot-out. Keanu was also a great casting choice! This should be a template for how to make a great action movie!

A “QUICK!” Review of “Evil Dead Rise (2023)”

Has extremely entertaining gore, carnage and kills! The performance from those possessed by the Deadite is terrific! The only issue is the unmemorable characters with a lack of depth. Then again, this doesn’t matter when one can puke a waterfall!

A Review of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)”

Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the best and most surprising things to come out of the MCU. They were an unknown group with heroes that were even more unknown than Iron Man (at the time). However, thanks to director James Gunn, he made them one of the most popular Marvel characters and team. I loved the first one and it is still up there in one of my favourite Marvel films. The second one is a great movie but not as good as the first one. There is a joke that the 3rd movie is always the worst which did occur with Ant-Man recently. Does Guardians of the Galaxy fall into this or does it deliver an epic trilogy? One of the core themes in the Guardian of the Galaxy movies is family and loss. This is still prevalent here and still as powerful. We see the Guardians feel closer as a family than ever but also argue a lot like family too. In terms of character arcs, Peter is still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Yondu and even his mother which is making him go to the bo...

A “QUICK!” Review of “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)”

The best word to describe this movie? Surprising. The characters are loveable with great chemistry and performances from the actors. The action scenes are awesome with great choreography, well shot and no shaky camera! The script is hilarious, with many great jokes that are memorable. The world itself is wonderful and respectful of the actual source material. The costumes and set design are well-made and feel magical. The mission itself is engaging and entertaining to watch. Even with a predictable plot, it has a lot of heart and is executed in a way that is never dull.

A “QUICK!” Review of “65 (2023)”

I love Dinosaurs I also love Sci-Fi However, this Dinosaur and Sci-Fi movie doesn’t work. There is barely any plot, barely any character depth, and a severe lack of dialogue. I don’t know why the writer made the characters unable to speak the same language because it just hinders the character interactions. They don’t even explain what mission our main character was on and why the girl was there. It also has a lot of questionable things such as why a futuristic ship couldn’t sense an asteroid belt, yet the main character has a sensor that works great on the ground. The director and writer don’t make us care enough about anything. So you should not care to watch this.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Andor (2022)”

I really enjoyed Star Wars: Rogue One. The more gritty take on Star Wars with a focus on non-Jedi, regular people was a great part of that movie. However, I never cared for a prequel on the character of Cassian Andor from that movie. I liked the character in the movie but I didn’t love him as much as Obi-Wan or Boba Fett. To my surprise, his show is probably one of the best Star Wars shows so far. I love the darker and more mature storytelling of Andor. There are no jokes at all in this show. The struggles of the Rebels against the empire are gripping. The visuals and practical set are terrific. The acting is phenomenal and the characters are all interesting. This feels like a Star Wars aimed at adults and I love it! Looking forward to season 2 and hopefully more Star Wars content of similar quality!
