  In 2021, Squid Game became a cultural phenomenon. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was a great addition to the Battle Royale genre. The story does end on a mild cliffhanger that feels like it was tacked on because Netflix wanted to make it a franchise. Now here we are in 2024, with another season of Squid Game. Does it live up to the hype? Despite feeling like the creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk was forced to make more seasons of Squid Game, he does not half-ass it. He does push this season in new directions and adds new elements to make the story exciting. For example, they added a new rule to the games by making it so they can vote to leave with the current money after each game. This new rule is a fun addition as it creates an exciting rift between characters who want to go and those who don’t.   It is crazy to think about how this movie franchise originally started on such bad footing with that ugly Sonic design. However, they listened to fans and altered the design to a more game-accurate one. Now here we are with 2 surprisingly good Sonic movies. The 3rd one finally introduces the iconic Shadow the Hedgehog! My favourite character! Is this another great Sonic movie entry or is another in the 3rd movie curse? Firstly, Shadow is handled wonderfully in this film. The film does a great job of illustrating Shadow’s strength and making us feel like Sonic has met his match. Keanu is just doing a Keanu voice but it does work very well for Shadow. Thankfully, they keep the core of his character and backstory in the film.   Naomi Scott gives a phenomenal performance as the main lead. Her character’s slow descent into insanity is very convincing thanks to Naomi’s performance! Some of the scares are pretty good and not all just obnoxious jump scares. A memorable one being the dance troupe scare, which was very creative. There is also an incredible one take scene at the beginning. However, I am slightly disappointed with this sequel as it is the exact same as the 1st movie but with a different coat of paint. The main character’s journey is the same and even the twist is the same. The sequel doesn’t expand on the lore of the smile demon and offers nothing new in the story. It also still has many of same problems from the first film such as being over reliant on jump scares. If you like the 1st one, you are going to like this one because it is basically the same movie. Hopefully, they do something different with the inevitable 3rd one.

  Clint Eastwood delivers a very interesting courtroom drama film. This is not the usual film about discovering the truth and pursuing justice. Instead, we are already given the truth in the first act and it is an exploration of the complications of justice. Everyone gives a solid performance that is grounded and not over the top which works for the story. The story is incredibly gripping as we get invested in the moral dilemma the characters are going through. You do have to suspend your disbelief a bit as it does have some plot contrivances. Additionally, the movie isn’t visually interesting but acceptable considering the nature of the story. Still, this is a very thought-provoking drama and another wonderful movie from Clint.

  Sony’s Spider-Man universe without Spider-Man has been a massive disappointment. We got a mediocre trilogy in Venom, a dumb meme of a movie with Morbius, and whatever in the world Madame Web was. Kraven the Hunter is the latest addition but it is R-rated! The one enjoyable aspect this movie has is the action scenes. The R-rating also allows for some nice gruesome and gorey moments which were fun. It is a shame that everything else is absolutely awful. The writing is terrible with clumsy dialogue. The story is all over the place and unengaging. There are too many villains and unnecessary characters. The CGI is just really bad to top it all off. Thankfully, this seems to be the last movie in this garbage cinematic universe so at least we can be grateful for it being all over.

  When I found out after watching, that this was based on a Manhua (Chinese Comic book), it started to make sense. Characters that feel straightforward, the action scenes that defy physics in every way, the power of friendship, straight-up superpowered abilities, and countless flashbacks. The film suffers from juggling too many things. We have this fish out of water, self-discovery story with our main character. We have this gang conflict between those in the Walled City and the Triads. We have a revenge plot. We have a man dealing with his past—the growing of bonds. Unfortunately, the story is all incredibly predictable and lacks real depth. The constant talk about the past conflict sounded more interesting than the main plot. The ending is lacklustre and the final fight is so weird with the unexplained superpowers. However, if you like martial arts movies then there is certainly fun to be had here.
