A Review of “The Adam Project (2022)”

A surprisingly entertaining time travel, sci-fi, popcorn flick with Ryan Reynolds who is still playing himself and a kid, Walker Scobell, who is good at playing a young Ryan Reynolds. The banter between the two is extremely enjoyable and some of the funniest moments in the film. It’s not just all comedy though and there are some genuinely moving moments with the dad and mom played by Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner respectively. Likewise, Zoe Saldana gives a strong performance despite her very brief appearance in the movie. Another aspect I appreciate is that the movie doesn’t use shaky cam or overly edits the action sequences which  is just a blessing on the eyes. However, the CGI is quite bad and there are a lot of very noticeable green screen. For some reason they also don’t use actual explosions but CG explosions which just looks lame. I am also a little annoyed that the 2050 soldiers who have these futuristic guns, yet the bullets still act like a normal modern da

A Review of “Turning Red (2022)”

Pixar returns with another movie that is, unfortunately, going straight to Disney+ with little recognition or fanfare about it. Pixar movies were usually the animated movies that everyone was talking about but I barely heard anyone talk about this one. The premise is “Mei Lee is a 13-year-old girl who is torn between being her mother’s obedient daughter and the chaos of her youth. As if that were not enough, when she gets too excited, she turns into a big red panda”. Is this a sleeper hit or is this going to be a Pixar movie people forget? Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. This movie is visually great with its phenomenal animation. The character designs, the city and the panda itself are all wonderfully pleasant. There is a lot of anime-inspired influences within the film and it certainly shows in the visuals. It’s a mostly grounded movie but when the magical stuff happens, the usual Pixar magic occurs and it is great! For example, there is a nightmare sequen

A “QUICK!” Review of “Scream (2022)”

An excellent homage to the original director, Wes Craven, of Scream 1-4. It includes the expected meta-commentary on the horror genre and I love that the franchise is still self-aware about it. It also includes some very gruesome kills and some good scares. It has returning legacy characters and they are all still great in the role. Of the new younger cast, only the main character Sam Carpenter is memorable. The rest of the cast are quite forgettable and all of them ramble about the rules of horror/slasher rather than just one person in the original. They can also ramble about it for a bit too long. The Ghostface revelation is a bit disappointing as the motive is incredibly weak and there is a severe lack of foreshadowing for it. Overall, not as great as Wes Craven was at his best but never as bad as his more disappointing entries (Scream 3). It’s a pretty entertaining movie and a good entry in the franchise.

A “QUICK!” Review of “No Exit (2022)”

There is a scene where someone sniffs cocaine and becomes powered up like Super Mario when he takes a Mushroom. It’s a pretty enjoyable suspenseful thriller with dumb writing.

A Review of “The Batman (2022)”

The Batman is no doubt one of my favourite superheroes. After the slightly disappointing utilization of Batman in the DCEU, we get another interpretation of Batman from director Matt Reeves. The premise is “When the Riddler, a sadistic serial killer, begins murdering key political figures in Gotham, Batman is forced to investigate the city’s hidden corruption and question his family’s involvement”. So does the film deliver an excellent take on Batman or is it another disappointing utilization? The biggest thing I appreciate about this film is that IT IS a fresh and new take on Batman. One of the iconic titles of Batman is that he is the “World’s greatest detective” but we never see that get explored in any of the previous Batman movies. Matt Reeves focuses on this aspect of Batman throughout with him using his smarts to solve the mystery. Instead of this being the generic superhero movie, it instead feels more like a detective, noir, thriller and I love that. The story
