Director Robert Eggers continues to delight with his visually stunning remake of Nosferatu. Mesmerizing cinematography, amazing practical sets, well-detailed costumes and terrific performances from everyone. Special mention to Bill Skarsgård who is unrecognisable as Nosferatu with his phenomenal performance. Likewise, Lily-Rose Depp delivers a masterful and unhinge performance as the main lead, Ellen.
A couple of gripes prevent this from being a perfect film. The pacing slows down significantly in the second half and loses the unique disorienting energy of the first act. I also wish the plot explored more of Ellen’s backstory and why Nosferatu is the way he is. I also have to admit that the choice of giving Nosferatu a moustache can come off as kind of funny.
Still, this is a very creepy and unsettling film that is visually spectacular. A worthy watch!
